*Note I didn't draw this, but a group called the violet order, who made this doujinshi picture of rozen maiden (whatever that is). I'm just coloring it since I don't have any artistic skill. I decided to pick this picture since it has a high level of detail, meaning I'll have lots of color changing due to its shades.
*Updates Added color and shading to the rose- 3/15/07 Added color and shading to her thighs and the left part of her skirt- 3/16/07 Added color and shading to the right part of her skirt- 3/17/07 Added color and shading to her knee pads and her left hand. Total time worked on this picture: around 23 hours- 3/18/07 March 25- Added color to the right part of her shirt and half of her left cape April 9- Finished the left part of her cape and part of the right. The right part of her cape is extremely hard since the shading done by the original artist wasn't that good so I have to remake some of the outlines. April 22- Right Cape completed. Right hand partially colored May 6- Right hand and left ribbon completed. May 13- Partial part of her shoulder was colored. Added a lens flare effect (Try and spot it XD) June 22- Right arm finished June 25- Left bust completed June 27- Right bust completed and nail filer (at least I think it is) June 28- Finished her neck clothing, neck ribbon (took a hell long time) and er... pillow attached to her hair. Honestly, I have NO idea what that originally is. I've checked other deviation works and anime pictures, but Suigintou does not seem to have such an item. In the end, I just improvised and colored it to be a maroon colored "pillow" July 3- Hair.... A little bit of it colored. I need a stylus(using the mouse is hard for curves)... and a hair coloring tutorial
February 10 2008- OK it's been awhile. I moved this from the scraps section to the fan art section. I don't plan to update this anytime soon due to the huge amount of work load I've been doing. HOPEFULLY, I'll update it during the summer (if i don't have a summer job that is)
August 12 2008- Done the right ribbon and one of her bangs
Well, it just takes a lot of time. 1st two factors that determine good shading is:
1. The drawing itself. If it isn't detailed enough then there's no use of trying to color it well.
2. Never use smudge in detailed drawings. Why? It just gets color everywhere. Instead, try getting a color, and then when shading, color it from darkest, intermediate, and lightest. Then separate each one with the blur tool. Try checking her hair on this picture. I used 3 colors to change the shading. You'll see what I mean

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
